Mary Olivia McPeters Price, 93, of Savannah and Tybee Island died May 20, 2015 at her daughter’s home under the care of Hospice Savannah, Inc. Born and raised in Savannah, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas M. Price, Jr., her parents, Annie Jones McPeters and Alfred Parker McPeters, Jr., her sister, Alice Ruth Callahan, her brother, Alfred Parker McPeters, III, and her granddaughter, Abbey Virginia Masingill.
Mary attended Massie School, Chatham Junior High School and was a 1938 graduate of Savannah High School. She graduated from Armstrong Junior College, the University of Georgia and earned master’s degrees from UGA and Georgia Southern University. She taught at Pape School before marrying in 1943, and joining Tommy on his U.S. Air Force assignments during World War II. She also taught school in Gulfport, MS and in Valdosta. After the War, Mary and Tommy returned to Savannah where she spent 34 very happy years teaching at Charles Ellis Elementary School. She instilled a love of reading and creative writing in her students, and is fondly remembered by them, many of whom are community leaders in Savannah and elsewhere.
Mary grew up at Bull Street Baptist Church and, after marrying, became a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Mary and Tommy moved to Tybee to live year-round after she retired from the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. Tybee held many happy memories for the Prices during their five-year-long courtship and almost 61 years of marriage. At Tybee they joined Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church.
During retirement Mary was an active member of the Tybee Island Lighthouse Historical Society (TILHS) where she volunteered in the gift shop. For many years, she played the piano for a Monday sing-along at the two Tybee nursing homes. She also continued to be a supporting member of the TILHS and Alpha Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma educational sorority.
Surviving are: her daughter, Ginger Price Masingill, her granddaughters, Kinzie Evrard (Jeff) and Meredith Plank, six great grandchildren, Coen, Hayden, Rilynn, Rachel, Hadley and Colt, her cousin, Jan (Sam) Durham and their daughter , Heather Nadler (Jon) and family.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 22, 2015 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 in the Hodgson Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors with Reverend Jan Durham officiating. The internment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.

I loved Mrs. Price. I will never forget the teachings that she instilled in me at a very young age and which has remained with me all these years later. What a great leagacy she leaves for everyone especially with her students from Charles Ellis School. RIP Mrs. Price. You will be missed.
